was taken by him while walking. if the food-stuff offered to him did not interest him, he used to leave it by the road-side and went to the door of another family-man. if he met with any scolding, he did not feel angry or disturbed. instead, he wished well of that family from the core of his heart and went his way.
in course of his travels, Baba happened to be in afghanistan for one and a half years. Though there was amity between the hindus and the Muslims, he had to answer to many a question at the entrance of afghanistan and he had to show if his body bore any scar of beating. he stayed for three months in a village named Chiman. it is a place of great beauty, adorned with picturesque scenery. a rivulet flows zigzag through forest and mountain. The scenic beauty of that place highly impressed him. There he sat in meditation in a desolate place under the shelter of a mountain. But he found no food there. No food came to him by way of offering. When he felt hungry, he drank water from the rivulet with the help of both of his hands. Miles away from the place, the farmers used to grow crops. One of them, on the fourth day, came to him and said, “This is not a right place for you to stay. a hindu monk is not respected here. he is instead tortured and tormented.”
in reply, Baba said, “i never think ill of others, nor do i mis- behave with any others. Nevertheless, if someone pains me, then i am ready to accept it—“Wohbhi achha.” surprised, the farmer looked on at the face of our Baba. Later on, he offered a couple of sugar-cane to him and left.
That day in the afternoon, a Pathan, tall and of well-built physique, came to him on horseback and paid his respectful obei- sance and offered him some food. Baba instead told him that he was not going to take the food, prepared by the latter. The Pathan said, “Then you prepare food for yourself.” Baba did not agree to the proposal, made by the Pathan. The Pathan, being a little bit cross, “Then you find your own food—yourself.” Baba said, “i do not feel like giving trouble to anyone, so why are you, dear, getting concerned or busy?”
Baba then advised the Pathan to rest for a while. On alighting from horseback, the Pathan sat before our Baba. Both of them talked
