The meaning is—there is no penance like truth and no sin like falsehood. God resides in the heart where there is truth. Baba told us that the habit of a man is born out of his association. To clarify this point, he told us a story:
Once a King, having conquered an enemy, had brought a pair of mynas to his palace. One of them was reared in the cottage of a sage and the other in a very low-caste family. The King, kept them in two different golden cages, which were hung in two different sides of the verandah of his Palace. Once, while loitering, the King got close to one of them and said, “Chant the name of haRi.” The bird obeyed him. he then went to the other bird and said, “Chant the name of haRi.” But the bird instead used foul language. Enraged, the King ordered his attendant to kill it then and there. On hearing the order of the King, the other bird said:

Baba said, one can realise God in four different ways, namely— Satsang (i.e. good association), Danti (‘Dam’ and ‘sham’ i.e. conti- nence), thought and contentment. if one is devoted to anyone of these four, then he can acquire the three others. For example, if a cot is strongly pulled by holding one of its Legs, then the cot with three other legs is sure to move forward.
Once Baba, by means of a story, advised us to remain fortified with the holy company of a sage, not to go to sleep at will, and not to eat if not hungry. When Gopichandra, the sage, deciding
