to renounce earthly life went to take leave of his mother, she said, “Dear boy, be always within a strong fort, lie on a good bed and eat cooked food.” Gopichandra said, “Dear mother, i am unable to accept your advice, because i will be on my toes. i will eat what i get by way of alms and will lie on an open road. This is what a sage has to abide by.”
The mother said to him, “Dear boy, i have told you to remain fortified in the company of a sage. When you really feel sleepy, go to sleep and when you feel hungry, take your food.”
One day Baba told us that every human being is subject to demoniacal as well as ascetic wealth. Demoniacal wealth includes desires, anger, temptations, attachment, ego, falsehood, enmity, stealing, lechery etc. and ascetic qualities include conscience, detachment, continence, respectfulness, forgiveness, patience etc. Demoniacal wealth is contrary to ascetic qualities. The more one earns ascetic qualities by dint of patience and devotion, the less will be the demoniacal gains. To weaken the demoniacal gains what is needed is to stop its sustenance. The more one practises a thing, the more he gets it.
in this context, my husband (sri hemendra Kumar Roy) asked our Guru Maharaj, “how to be really true to oneself daily?”
Gurudev said, “Forsake both the lowly and the princely airs, or their association and their thoughts. Forsake the princely food and luxury. Things of luxury give rise to a feeling of luxuriousness and princely attitude. stop supplying sustenance to every kind of demoniacal desire and at the same time raise the ascetic qualities. Moreover, practice self-control in food, conduct and words and practice meditation and association with good and virtuous people. Be always guided by noble ideas and be noble at heart. Develop continence on the one hand and generosity on the other. “Kalau nāmaiva kevalam, Kalau dānaiva kevalam.” The habit of chanting the name of God will cleanse your heart of your vices and princely attitude. he said to us, “Daya dharmakā mul, pap mul abhimān.”
Baba said, whatever danger a man encounters is born of what he had done in his previous life. so “aisa kām karo ki peechhe dukh nahi karnā hoi.” an intelligent man is he who thinks only of good things.
