Without any hesitation, the King went with the sage. They went far beyond the city and saw a camel lying dead by the road-ride. The decomposed carcass was emitting stench. The sage drew the attention of the King and said, “What is it?” The King said, “it is a camel.” The sage said to him, “Look at it carefully, and give a description of its body.”
The King gave an account of what he had seen. The sage said, “The carcass is unholy. Your mind now has captured the scene of the unholy dead body. Until and unless you keep it off, you cannot eat anything.”
The sage then left the place. The more the King tried to forget the image of a camel, the more it found a strong foothold in his heart. his attendants stood by him with plates of food, but the King could not eat it. his Guru had forbidden him from taking any kind of food until he had erased the image of the camel from his mind.
after a while, the sage returned to the King and came to learn that the latter had not been able to forget the camel. The sage then said, “Then why have you put the sages in pain by throwing them behind bars for nothing? They are wise men and they have offered you good piece of advice. and since you are impure at heart, you are not in a position to receive them. Till you have these five things namely, anger, animosity, egoism, prowess and desires, you don’t deserve any piece of advice. if you can discard them, you can then receive advice, otherwise not.”
“What is egoism, Baba?” the King asked. and in reply, Baba said, “Egoism is nothing but a feeling of pride. Envy is nothing but a feeling of jealousy at the fortune of others, which makes one unhappy. ‘Avidya’ is nothing but ignorance, something that makes one take false as true. Until such an illusion is gone, none can acquire knowledge or wisdom.”
Baba therefore said, “Think deeply of yourself. Cast aside everything trash, be it any work, any word, any thought or any desire and devote yourself to meditating on Paramātman and be spiritually single-minded. Make your mind flow toward him. it is by means of this one can kill the desires for money and materials.
