this the same Triveni bank where Benimadhav had given courage to the fearful Janak by appearing in his four handed avatar? i was stupefied. Old memories flashed in my mind. i saw the white waves of the Ganga and the blue waves of Yamuna but could not find saraswati. “You were there, O Mother, when sri Ramchandra had washed his feet in your holy water. sreeroop Goswami had immersed himself in your waters attaining a new life. Why have you hidden yourself O Mother? is it because we do not have the divine knowledge? But there are many sadhus and Mahatmas who have come to this Triveni to give away their knowledge as they have come to bathe here. in the past many knowledgeable and loving great men like Mahatma Dayal Das, Bholananda Giri, Kathia Baba, Karan Das, Gambhir Nath, arjun Das, Jatiya Baba etc had come. at present great personalities like sant Das, hansdev avadhoot have come to grace the occasion so why can i not see you O Mother?”
Looking back i saw the huge Fort standing erect, years after holding the fame of the hindus, the Muslims and the English. The boundaries of the fort proclaim the ancient fame of islam. in the interior stands the imperishable banyan tree and the ashoka pillar of the hindus. The British flag fluttered in pride.
Looking at the river beach i found many Sannyasins. some took shelter just under the open sky, some under parasols, little huts or even in shelters created from cloths. some roamed in loin cloth, some in saffron. some were decked in garlands and tikas, some had mass of matted locks, while others carried staffs or Kamandalu (Water pot). in this way i saw millions and millions of Sadhus and Sannyasins.
