the man was in problem. he said to Baba, “There being the fear of being attacked by the tigers, the snakes and the ghosts, it is next to impossible for him to lie all alone in the open forest.” Baba assured him of no fear and invited him to the ‘tambu’, and he instead slept through the night outside the ‘tambu’.
On hearing these words of Baba, we all had a good laugh and asked him, “how many nights did you spend this way?”
Baba said in reply, “i spent a couple of nights or so. and then without letting anyone know, i left for a new place. But the policeman could hardly know about it.”
The next morning, i saw Baba elucidating a shloka of a drama, titled ‘Prabodh Chandrodaya’. i cannot remember the shlokas, nor their meaning. in course of elucidating the shlokas, once he said—
Forgiveness said to conscience, ‘Oh God, pay heed to my words. if a man gets angry, then one has to remain calm and mum. if he utters words of insult, one has to use soft and sweet words to him. in case his anger has not subsided and he begins hurling angry words, then one has to sit at his feet, praying humbly to quieten him and showing as much kindness to him as possible one has to pray to God so that he is purged of his Chandal-like anger. in case an angry man starts beating one, then without being angry with him one has to think that he is being purged of his own evil deeds or sins. We are made to suffer torture or insults only because of our evil deeds done in previous lives. We are to realize that a human being is but a puppet.”
Baba said, Bhagvan sri Ramachandra, in course of his exile in the forest, had had the opportunity of enjoying the cordial hospi- tality of Guhak Chandal. at that time Guhak said to Lakshman, “Dear friend, let us join hands to kill Bharata and restore the kingdom of Rama.”
in reply Lakshman said to Guhak,
सुखस्य दुःखस्य ि कधोऽनप दाता पिधो ददांतीतत कुबुदद्िेषा। अहम् किधोमीतत वृथार्भमािः स्वकमजिसूत्रे ग्रथथता हह लधोकाः॥
