purity of body and mind. To be externally pure one needs water, soil and soap. One has to keep his body, clothes and bed clean only to be clean in mind. as for innate cleanliness, one has to give up evil desire and evil association. ‘arjav’ means to give up the evilness, crookedness of mind and falsehood of every kind.”

after sometime, a few important people came to see Baba. Rai Bahadur Kunjamohan Mitra prayed to Baba to give them some advice. in reply, Baba said, “human beings belong to four different classes—Narrow-minded, practical, inquisitive and wise. Those who are practical not only want to enjoy life to its maximum but also want to ascend to heaven after their death. The very desire to earn eternity makes the practical people do many a charitable and holy work. They only want to taste the joys of life—both here and hereafter—though by means of right path. They never look forward to achieving ‘Moksha’.
and those who are narrow-minded and sinful want nothing but enjoyment, by fair means or foul. in quest of enjoyment, they commit many sinful acts. They want neither religion nor moksha, they only want to wallow in joy and happiness. Both the practical and the narrow-minded are against sages and Sannyasins. Of these two, the practical prefer to follow the path of religion. Never for a moment do they look forward to attaining moksha.
One who aims at attaining moksha has to take to four differ- ent paths like—good-association, self-mortification (i.e. one who controls ‘sama-Dama’1), judiciousness and satisfaction. Regarding ‘sat-sanga’ (i.e. good-association) Baba said,
“Once a jeweller at the time of his death said to his wife and son, ‘if you are ever in crisis, you may take this jewel to a very close friend of mine and your crisis would be over.’ saying this, the jeweller offered them a fake jewel. soon after the demise of the jeweller, crisis overtook both his wife and son. The son took that
