arrangement to get his second daughter wedded to his son-in-law. The marriage was solemnized on an auspicious day. On getting the second daughter wedded to his son-in-law, the father-in-law said to him, “i have already offered my second daughter to you. Now you promise me that you will take every care of my second daughter in the way you have taken care of my elder one.”
On promise, the man returned home with his newly-married wife. having returned home, he told both of his wives, “i have promised your father that i will take care of you in the way i have taken care of my first wife. i look upon my first wife as my sister and my second wife will be treated likewise. Never will i take any food, prepared by both of you. i will prepare my own food myself and i will not touch any food prepared by either of you.”
The first wife felt shocked because she hoped that there would be a child in their family. But all was in vain. she knew well that her husband was true to his words. since under no circumstances would he deviate from his principle, she decided not to persuade him. Everyone knew that both the sisters were leading a very happy life there. They lived a life, isolated from their husband though, they used to keep their family in good humour. Their husband too behaved with them in the way a brother does with his sisters.
at that point of time, there happened another event. Both sri Krishna and arjun were travelling around the country. arjun then was wearing a necklace, made of rare stones, gifted to him by indra, the King of Gods. at the time of giving that necklace, indra said to arjun, “Never take it off from your neck.” and arjun promised him, “i will never do it at any cost.”
One day, sri Krishna begged arjun to give away his necklace to him. Partha said, “i have taken a pledge not to part with this necklace, even if it costs my life.” and sri Krishna stopped himself from praying for it.
Later on, on seeing a tank at a distance, arjun said “Dear friend, wait for me here till i return after having had a bath.”
sri Krishna said, “Dear, you are going to bath now, but why are you in arms?”
