Your wives, on the other hand, have proved that they were devoted to their husband and thus the desire of their heart got fulfilled. and at the same time, sri Krishna has made a dig against my pride.”
Baba said, but for a resolute will and determination, none can have a pure heart, nor can one practise Brahmacharya. if an unflinching willpower is coupled with ‘sadhana’ and lack-of-senti- ment, then one can attain brahmacharya. By way of an example, Baba told us a tale.
a sage was absorbed in his meditation in a dense forest. a handsome wood-cutter boy used to come to the forest in search of wood. On seeing the sage, he felt reverent to him. he felt like serving the sage but he did not have the means to do so. in spite of that he served to the best of his ability. he began collecting a pile of wood for the ‘dhooni’ of the sage. One day, the sage said to him, “Dear boy, why do you take pains to bring me piles of wood daily? You will never have any gain in exchange for your service to me.”
“i am not doing this in lieu of something. i feel happy by having rendered my service to you. i can do nothing for you and therefore i bring you a pile of wood for you daily.”
Pleased, the sage said to him, “Dear boy, please go to the Capital of the land and learn lessons with the teacher with whom the princes are learning.”
“Why will he agree to teach me?” asked the boy.
“i am giving you the way out”, said the sage in reply. The sage then offered him good advice. The boy reached the capital and as per the advice of the sage he started to supply a pile of wood daily to that teacher without any cost. The wife of the teacher thought that her husband might have had such an arrangement with the wood-cutter. One day, in presence of the teacher, the boy left the pile of wood and left. The teacher said to his wife, “Why haven’t you paid for the service, dear?”
The wife said, “strange! i have never paid him for the service the boy has been rendering for so long. i thought that you might have arranged this thing.”
