began teaching him. The exceptional intelligence and memory of the boy highly impressed him so much so that he took every care of his studies and had him admitted to the school of the palace for his proper education. The wife of the house on the other hand felt satisfied with his service and began to take care of him as her son. she had no son, but everybody came to learn that he was the son of the teacher. although the princes had long been students in that school, the boy had an edge over them by virtue of his exceptional calibre and perseverance.
The King of the nearest land promised that one who would win the highest rank in the examination would be married to his daughter. he had no son and quite naturally on being married to his daughter, the boy would be the only heir to the throne. in the school of the palace, there was a very tough test on politics. Like the princes too, this handsome boy was ready to take the test. Nobody knew that he was the son of a wood-cutter. instead he was taken to be the son of the teacher. and the boy came out with flying colours, by being the first. The king then had the newly-passed young man appointed as an ‘amatya’ (Minister). The duty of a minister was done so ably and intelligently that the king was happy with him and got him married to his only daughter with all pomp and grandeur and promoted to the rank of a minister. The young man impressed the King by skilfully dispensing with the duty assigned to him.
after sometime, the king breathed his last, and the young man was enthroned. This young man was devoted to doing things good and with the huge property and prosperity he began translating his noble wishes into reality. his joy knew no bounds as his wife was devoted to him, his servants loyal to him, his subjects obedient to him and a huge amount of property and prosperity to do noble jobs for his dear subjects. Everyone in his land was happy with every noble deed performed. it was at that point of time, he began to reminisce his past life. he knew that he had scaled the greatest height of life from a very low level. he was too small then but he is so big now. he also thought to himself that by dint of perseverance one can rise to more height. if one can become the
