Develop the habit of detachment and self-contentment. a seeker of truth has to have self-contentment at first.”
Baba also added, “Fortune is always fickle, she does not remain stationary. so she has to be properly utilized. Fortune is enjoyed by four types of people: (i) ‘Dharma’, (ii) Taskar’, (iii) ‘agni’ and (iv) ‘Nripa’. if fortune is not properly used, then it is seized by the three others. so in stead of amassing too much money or fortune, one has to use it for the good of others. My Guru Maharaj used to say, ‘in the way the water of a well gets polluted due to no regular use of it, (because the very use of it on a regular basis helps the pure water below come out of the womb of earth), God too being happy with one’s proper use of fortune favours him with more fortune.’ he also added—The family who is fortunate enough to have amassed money is prone to getting all the more luxurious, boastful and mean at heart.”
One day sadhu Baba specially told us, “Things material fetch one no happiness. soul is the only source of happiness and bliss. Once the mind is brought under control, soul has a feeling of happiness. But it is true that human beings get happy with things material. This is because once a human gets a thing desired by him, he is for the time being left with no more desire. and lack of desire makes the mind concentrate on that particular material gain and get a feeling of joy. if the mind gets restless, it loses the power of receiving joy or happiness. Desire makes the mind all the more restless and thus it helps rouse excitement in the mind. That is why, desire of any kind has to be discarded.
Baba said, “if one develops the habit of meditation, he can hear a sound from within his heart in course of that meditation. and that sound is that of the soul. if one gets himself or herself devoted to that sound, he has a feeling of joy, bliss, strength and peace to his fill. For this reason only, one should develop the habit of meditation.” if meditation is made with a single-minded devotion, one can hear this undisturbed sound.
Baba also said, “if you can forsake everything like self-desires, petty thoughts, worthless words and mean jobs and can always devote yourself to Paramatman, then the flow of mind will auto-
