having given this piece of advice, the Yogi left the ashram. all the four disciples, as per the advice of the Yogi, had the seed properly sown on the premises of the ashram and took every care of it. They then began guarding the tree in turn. The plant grew into a tree, got covered with a huge foliage and yielded four fruits. While the Prince was keeping watch over the tree, a fruit fell down and he had it to his joy. in no time, he felt himself to be purer at heart and thus got rid of his evil desires. The three other fruits fell down when the Prince was keeping watch over the tree, and he much to his joy took them to his fill. at the time of taking the second fruit, the Prince attained piety (‘Yama’), discipline (‘niyama’), exact sitting posture (‘aasan’), detachment (pratyahar), meditation (‘dhyana’) and concentration (‘dharana). On having taken the third fruit, enlightenment (‘riddhi’), fulfilment (‘siddhi’), self-realisation (‘savikalpa Samadhi), and the last fruit fetched him oneness with God (‘nirvikalpa Samadhi).
The three others saw that the Prince was fortunate enough to have tasted all the four pieces of fruits and had acquired greater spiritual strength. Jealous as they were, they complained against the Prince. in defence, the Prince said, “You are indeed cross with me for no reason whatsoever. i have but obeyed the order of our ‘Gurudev’. if i have done something more than that, then i am ready for any punishment. Besides, ‘Gurudev’ is our sole judge. it is better to lodge a complaint against me with him. if we think of him and pray for his return, he will return. Let us sit down and pray for his early arrival.”
The very ardent and fervent prayer brought the Yogi-Guru back to the ashram. Every disciple paid his pranam and prayed for justice. The Yogi said, “Everything is all right. Now see for yourself if the desires you had been cherishing have already been satiated.” The disciples were left with no answer.
Baba then made it clear that this Yogi is none but God. Whatever is prayed for by a devotee is duly granted to him.
srimat hujurananda avadhootji said, “Once sri Ramachandra asked Rishi Vashistha, ‘how to bring the mind under control? in reply, Vashisthaji said, “it can be contained by means of four
