ailment on the telephone, came to Baba and he attended upon him and took pains to have him fully cured. When by the end of ashwin we came to Jasidih, Baba was fully cured. We took note of the change in the brilliant glow in Baba’s physique.
That day, we had had the opportunity of listening to him on advaitism. Talking about the same advaitism (Monotheism) of shri shankaracharya, Baba said:
द्ैताद्ैत वस्ुगत खाली खेंचाताि; सकल व्वस्था स्वप्में, आगे मौि मुकाम।
dvaitādvaita vastugata khālī kheṃcātāna; sakala vyavasthā svapnameṃ, āge mauna mukāma.
That is to say, that there is a debate between Dvaitism and advait- ism is born of sheer ignorance. Once one is enlightened, he will see the Brahman immanent in everything and everyone. During a dream, for instance, one dreams a good many things, one hears a lot of things, but the moment one wakes up, he sees and hears nothing. silence prevails everywhere in the house. similarly, with the dawn of enlightenment, all the debates die a natural death.
To drive this point home into our hearts, Baba said: Once a few passers-by, while walking along, took rest under the shade of a tree. They included a fakir, an itinerant Vaishnav, an astrologer, a warrior, a wrestler and a merchant. at that time, a titir bird was twittering atop that tree. That very chirp sounded differently in different ears. The fakir said, ‘how beautiful are its words! ‘shobhan teri kudrat’—meaning, O God, how sweet is your nature!’
The words of the Fakir did not sound good in the ears of the Vaishnav. he said, ‘No, No, you have failed to follow the meaning of the bird. The bird says, “sitaram Dasharath’.
By way of protest, the astrologer said, “You too failed to make out the meaning of the bird. What the bird says is—the Vedas, the Puranas are holy scriptures”—i.e. only by reading these holy books you can be really enlightened and in the process you can destroy ignorance (Avidya).
The warrior added, i am sorry to say that the bird is not saying what you have said. You all have failed to get into the essence of
