it is this ‘i’ that remains detached amidst this body made of ‘Panchabhuť. The mind does its duty with the help of ten senses, and mind is all busy to propitiate the desires of the senses.
Once shri shri shrutananda swamiji said—
मृग मीि भंृग पतंग गुंजि, आकैक दधोषयों बीिाश र्जसमें यह पाँचधो बसे तांकी कहक आशा
mṛga mīna bhṛṃga pataṃga guṃjara, ākaika doṣoṃ bīnāśa jisameṃ yaha pāṃco base tāṃkī kahaka āśā
That is to say, When kuranga, matanga, patanga, bhringa, meen are getting destroyed by the desires of the senses, how is it possible for a man to be relieved of the attacks made by all the five senses? it is possible if one is blessed by God. a human being, with any desire, may pray to God provided he does it with all piety—
थक्षप्रंभवतत धम्रात्ा शश्वच्छान्न्ं निगच्छतत। कौन्ेय प्रततजािीहह ि मे भक्ः प्रणश्तत॥
kṣipraṃbhavati dharmātmā śaśvacchāntiṃ nigacchati, kaunteya pratijānīhi na me bhaktaḥ praṇaśyati.
(Gita: 9-31)
“Quickly they become virtuous, and attain lasting peace. O son of Kunti, declare it boldly that no devotee of Mine is ever lost. That is, if one prays to me, he will be made pure at heart and will be in a perpetual sense and bliss.”
But peace is a far cry. Ramprasad, the pious one, got impatient and said, “how is it possible for me to live, when five of my senses have five different desires?”
What is the way out then? There is a way out. shri shri Chaitanya Deva said to sanatan, “One who prays to God, be it for the satiety of his senses or his ‘moksha’, is granted the grace of sitting at the lotus-feet of sri Krishna.” But how is it possible? sri Krishna himself said,
सव्रािम्भपरित्यागी यधो मद्भक्ः स मे नप्रयः॥
sarvārambhaparityāgī yo madbhaktaḥ sa me priyaḥ. (Gita: 12-16)
