remains without even any effort or care reveals from within the outward body and every other thing without. it is the ‘atman’ that remains the only witness and is known as ‘Chaitanya Prajnan’.
The same thing is explained by the Mahavakya of the बृहदारण््यक उपधनषद Brihadaranya Upanishad belonging to the Yajur Veda— aham Brahmasmi’. One that resides in this human body with five of its senses is but ‘aham’ (i.e. ego). This ‘aham’ (i.e. ego) is nothing but human consciousness. The word ‘asmi’ justifies the unity between the ‘Jiva-Chaitanya’ and the ‘Brahma-Chaitanya’.
Then came the old and frail Rishi atharva with his mahavakya ‘ayam atma Brahma’ in order to have the Rishis startled. On being invited to explain, Rishi atharva expounded: “One who stands revealed in the form of a human body is none but ‘ayam’. and one who remains revealed in the human body remains within it. ‘atman’ is he. he remains within the ego. ‘atman is he.’ On having explained ‘ayam-atma’, he explained the importance of the word ‘Brahma’. he thus explained the unity between ‘Jiva’ and Chaitanya’.
Our Baba too has explained it to us time and again. Once he told us—
जय अतवद्क्त कौंतेय मी िाधापुत्र प्रततत
सचदािंद धि ब्रहमामी जीवभाव तन् िीतधो
jaya avikrita kauṃteya mī rādhāputra pratita cidānaṃda dhana brahamāmī jīvabhāva tanya rīto
That is to say, just as the highly powerful Karna (son of Kunti) who was brought up by Radha took himself to be the son of Radha, similarly a human owing to ignorance fails to understand who he is. he fails to follow that he is Brahma and that he can not be isolated from Brahma. he has taken it for granted that he is but a petty human being.
Baba one day told us—
ईश आिाधि बीज से ऊपजे तत्व सुबधोध
īśa ārādhana bīja se ūpaje tatva subodha
On being requested to explain the meaning, contained in it, Baba explained that ‘Tatva’ is nothing but the unity of man and
