already made, he left his home. having crossed many a land, he came to the capital of a country. it was then dawn. he saw many people running toward the palace. Out of curiosity, he began to make queries and came to learn that as per the prediction of an extra-ordinary astrologer a live fish would drop from the blue. To witness such a surprising thing, people were therefore running toward the palace. The young astrologer, in order to see it happen, went to the palace.
since mid-day was yet to arrive, the young man sat down to do astrological calculations. he was sure that a live fish would surely drop down on earth from above, but it would happen not exactly at midday. instead it would happen half an hour after midday. On reaching such a conclusion, he asked in a loud voice, “Which astrologer has predicted that the fish would drop down at midday?”
an elderly man said, “it is i who had made this forecast.”
The young man retorted, “Your calculation is wrong, and you will realize your mistake after it falls down.”
The man said, “What do you mean, my young man?”
The young man said in reply, “The fish is sure to fall but the fall would occur half an hour after midday.”
Midday came but the fish did not fall. and exactly half an hour after midday, the fish fell down with a loud sound. and as the prediction of the newly arrived astrologer proved to be right, the King, as a show of respect to him, invited him to sit alongside the ministers. The elderly astrologer felt ashamed but kept on sitting at his place. The young man then got close to him and paid his obeisance. he then said, “You are my father.”
“how strange! how could you come to know that i am your father?” said the man to the young man.
Replied he, “One who can forecast that a fish would drop on earth from above is none but my father.”
“and you have proved me wrong”, said the man.
The young man said, “Your calculations are very much right, only that you have not counted the space of time needed for that fish to come down against the wind it has to pass through. Exactly for the same reason, you failed to determine the exact time of my birth.”
