are we less qualified than they? Then why do you attach more importance to Birbal at the cost of us? Our humble prayer to you is—let him be dispensed with.”
The Emperor only smiled, “Could you tell me the exact answer to every question i will ask from now onwards? Would you be able to satisfy me with your suggestions? and if you can do so, then i will surely consider your prayer.”
The ministers nodded their heads and said, “surely we can do that. We shall offer suggestions which would be better than his. Just take a test of that.”
The Emperor nodded his head affirmatively and bade goodbye to them and secretly called in Birbal to him. he then told him, “i ask you not to remain in the court for a few days. if needed, i will send for you.”
Birbal realized only too well that the Emperor had done this with a definite object in view and so without any word he left the court.
after that incident one day the Emperor called in his ministers and asked, “Just tell me—What is the best thing on this earth of ours?”

On hearing this, the Emperor said, “None of you could tell me
the correct answer. had Birbal been here, he could have offered me the right answer. anyway, take only seven days and come back to me with the right answer. and if you fail to answer, then you will be harshly dealt with. Do remember, i verily want the answer to my question on the very eighth day.”
all the ministers felt worried. They found no right answer to the question of the Emperor. Everyone went back to his home and began pondering over it. Every one felt scared to think that failure
