the revered soul about whom i’m going to write here came of an aristocratic Brahmin family, famous for having served the sages, in the Punjab—the land which is made holy by the birth
of Guru Nanak. Exactly when he was born is not certain, but he seemed to have been born around the time of the sepoy Mutiny. he did not visit Bengal, maybe he was left with no time to do so. a true seer or a sage, until he has had real enlightenment, does not feel like coming to the society of human beings. They like to remain secluded only to remain devoted to worship, as advised by their Guru, or they spend much of their time in visiting the places of pilgrimage. This great soul, bare-bodied, but with a ‘loin- cloth’, walked barefoot many a mile along the icy-region of the Uttarakhand, only to meditate at a place of his choice. Later on, he dared the sun and the rain to go from one place of pilgrimage to the other and found a place, be it in wilderness or under the shade of a tree, to be absorbed in meditation in a posture of ardhasan and without food. in those days, the sages in groups started their pilgrimage from the himalaya to Kanyakumari walked along the western front to again return to the himalayas. in this way, he visited all the places of pilgrimage thrice in his life.
