departure, he said, “Meet me at Prayag, the greatest of pilgrimages, on the auspicious occasion of Maghi Purnima and thereafter we will have a holy dip there in the confluence of the Triveni.”
The sage entered the city. The architectural excellence of the buildings impressed him most. Then he entered the Palace. The King was then in his court. as the sage entered the royal court, the King, accompanied by his ministers and other officials, warmly received him. he then made him sit on an important chair and offered him a garland and sandal paste. The sage was thereafter duly entertained. at lunch he felt satiated with delicious drinks and food. The sage did not feel like leaving such a beautiful place having tasty and dainty dishes. he overstayed there in the palace. Gouri, the princess, used to take care of him. The beauty of the princess encaged the sage in the palace. he forgot all about his disciple Gorakshanath, the holy dip in the Prayag on the occasion of ‘Maghi Purnima’. Finally, the sage married the princess and began leading a family life. The King had no male child and everybody knew that the sage i.e. his son-in-law would be enthroned in course of time. and a day drew near when the King made him sit on the throne of the land and died a peaceful death. On being the King, the sage devoted himself to doing the kingly duties. he forgot meditation, ‘Paramatma’, disciples and became an easy prey to sensual pleasures. and as he became the father of a son, he got all the more entangled in family life.
Gorakshanath, on the other hand, came to learn by means of meditation about the latest condition of his Guru and he too came to the city to meet him. The sage, on seeing his disciple, felt ashamed. as the disciple paid his pranam to his Guru, he took him to a lonely room. Tête-à-tête over, the disciple wished to take the Guru away from the Palace, but the latter declined and said, “Not now, a little later.”
“What makes you remain so attached to these things? You yourself have forgotten who you are. One who made you...” said the disciple.
“it is no time to leave my palace. My son is too young now,” replied the sage.
