“Were those articles more precious than this piece of stone?” questioned Gorakshanath.
“how foolish and mad you are! i could have purchased a country”, said the Guru in protest.
“My revered Guru, you have forgotten yourself. One can get lakhs of gems and jewels out of your urine”, said Gorakshanath.
“You are speaking like a great fool”, said the Guru.
Gorakshanath defended his stand saying, “You are still under the spell of illusion. Now see what i am doing”, said Gorakshanath. he then, while standing, started urinating. The Guru saw to his surprise that many a jewel and gem are getting down with his urine. as he saw the gems and jewels getting piled up there, he said to Gorakshanath, “Forgive me, from now onwards you are
my Guru and not i yours. i am now your disciple.”
The tale tells us that it is worthwhile to keep aloof from temptation. Just as the magnet of human passions is in search of bits of iron, every human sense looks for things tempting on earth. One who has not had that power to contain that passion in him/her must not play with fire. The sadhu-Maharaj thought that there is nothing on earth that can seduce him. he therefore told Gorakshanath, “if you do not have the power then you must not come in touch with human beings, and i will go all alone.” Baba Gorakshanath had that innate power to check his temptation, he was dead against coming in close contact with men attached to things earthly. But one who, not having that power, is proud of it, is sure to have a great fall. This is what this tale teaches us. sentiment, pride and temptations—all these are always discardable. One who, be a sage or a family man, is possessed with these things like sentiment, ego and temptation, has fallen down to the bottomless pit of a dungeon. Unless one has a feeling of detachment and a love for meditation he must not tread this path.
