every human heart is potentially divine and so it wants to enjoy the holy company of God. True it is. Just as water flows down to water, just as power invites power, the ‘Jivatma’ too wants to get merged with ‘Paramatma’. But the path to be trodden is strewn with many an obstruction. in order to tide over these obstructions, we need the help and advice of the sages. it is a fact that we seek the advice of an experienced one who has trodden that path. it is this pathfinder who is our Guru. The Guru can show the path to be taken but he cannot reach one at the door of God. Baba used to say, it is you who will have to chew or ruminate and not i. if one desired to be initiated by shri shri Purnananda, one of the greatest of sages, he used to tell him/her, “Dear, how can i make you reach there since i myself have not yet reached? But what i know is that if one prays to him with all piety and fervour, he holds him close to his heart. if you have faith in yourself and go forward, he cannot but receive you.” True it is that if we, detached from our ego, can dedicate ourselves at his lotus feet, then our expectation will be fulfilled. if we perform ‘Jagjajno’ (Jaag Yagna— Rituals with chanting of Mantras in front of a havan or sacred fire), ‘Japdhyan’ (Japa Dhyana—meditative repetition of a mantra or divine name and Meditation) and ‘Puja at home’ (Worship of family deities), we feel proud of having performed them. it is this pride that pulls us down and stands in the way of our being one with God, and does not help us to see God.
i would like to do neither ‘Jaag’ nor ‘jajna’. i want nothing but him—my heart, my friend and my constant companion. allow me to break open this cage to go to him. allow me to search for him all throughout the world. i am feeling tired of being confined, and crippled within the cage. i can see yonder, even with my eyes closed, and with my heart, that magnificent world of enlightenment having spread itself from the finite to the infinite. That world, beautified with variegated flowers and fruits in trees growing on the mountains and the valleys is beckoning me and saying, “it is for you only i in such a beauteous form have been waiting for you. The sky-high mountains, spread unto the horizon, seem to peep out to look at me saying, “i have been waiting down the ages only
