blew hard and Baba (i.e. the sage) was to remain without food. his face that used to sport a divine smile didn’t let anyone know that he was without food. Never ever did we even see in him an iota of rage, annoyance or swing of mood. We used to see him all serene in every situation. Neither during starvation nor in times of fever did he ever feel sad at heart. Remaining calm of mind with all passions spent, he used to wear a sweet face and said: “it is the Will of GOD.”
it was by the Will of God that many a devotee was eager to serve the great sage (i.e. our Baba). someone had had a big house built for him, some other had his house furnished with different pieces of furniture, some other had a well sunk with a view to reducing the crisis of water he usually suffered and some other received his blessings by raising a kitchen for him. But our Baba was much above all these things, to him a hut was as good as a palatial building. Lest a devotee should feel sad at heart, he did not discourage him from paying his tribute or gift to him. he did not feel like giving any kind of pain to a devotee. he viewed the Paramatman in every human being and that’s why he was dead against inflicting any pain to any heart.
he was the dear and kind father to every devotee of his. at first, Baba used to live alone at the top of the hill. in course of time, many devotees came his way. Everyone of them used to feel blessed to have served him. There was a time when due to crunch of space one who came to visit him had to be put up in the nearest village after sun-set. Baba then used to stay all alone without any problem. at 2 a.m. when the mail train ran past Jasidih and roaringly headed toward Kolkata, Baba used to get up from bed and go to a stream at the foothills to have a bath in the icy-cold water, braving the chilly winter and the rains, the darkness and the desolation, the hiss of the snakes and the howls of the tigers and returned to the Kailash to sit in meditation at an open space. and he continued (with) this habit for quite a long period and he did maintain it until the devotees, the monks and the Sannyasins came to stay under his benignant shelter. Gone are those days. he is now too old and perhaps he needs no more meditation. he is now
