announcement that any person who would pray to him to be the King of the land would be entrusted with the duty of ruling the land for a week and on completion of the seventh day he would be forsaken in a forest beyond a river, infested with ferocious animals. The people, though they were afraid of ferocious beasts beyond a river, could not help restraining the temptation of being the King of the land. Those who were an easy prey to desires and temptation offered themselves for the coveted crown. and the one who was the first to become the King of the land was banished to the forest beyond the river. and he was fated to die there in that forest. Nevertheless, there was another applicant. The King, while granting his prayer, stood aside and the courtiers, including the ministers, waited with hands folded for his orders to be carried out. But he, shouldering no other duties, only remained engrossed in fulfilling his desires and temptations. satiated with what he had desired, he was sent into exile on completion of the week. None saw him alive thereafter. Many a man suffered the same fate. as a result, the whole of the land was under the grip of fear and terror. None dared further. But once a clever man approached the King. No sooner did he express the desire of being the King of the land than the King got down from his throne. Wasting no time, that man called all the ministers and government officials and made an order that a bridge was to be built across the river within a couple of days.
Once the bridge was built, the King ordered them to engage two lac labourers to get the jungle totally cleaned and to erect a mansion there. Only four days were allotted to get these things done. On the morning of the seventh day, he asked them to transfer the treasury of the palace to the newly-built palace beyond the river. and the order of the King was duly carried out. Before the seventh night was over, he willingly left the palace and went to the new palace built for him beyond the river. and thus he could avoid the punishment of banishment. By thus utilizing the stipulated time he realized his goal.
