The Bheel King then poured out his mouthful of water atop the shivalinga and laid with love the blood-stained flesh of the hare on it. With hands folded he then said, “Dear friend, i’ve come with a gift for you, receive it and favour me by having a talk with me.” The shivalinga having not talked with him, the Bheel King felt sad at heart. With hands folded, he kept on standing and prayed with all earnestness but God spoke no word to him. With no other alternative left, he returned home broken hearted at the end of the night. The very next day at midnight, the Bheel King with his mouth full of water and the flesh of a hare in hand went to the temple of shiva. On entering the temple, he washed the head of Mahadev with the water of his mouth, laid the flesh on it and with all humility said, “Dear friend, please utter a word or two for me. i need nothing from you except you talk with me and address me as your friend.” The Bheel King tried heart and soul for the whole of the night but got no reply. at last, he returned home, sadder. hopeless though, he did not budge an inch from his resolution. The next day, again he went there. after having offered all he had taken, he made a fervent appeal to Mahadev. But there was no reply from Mahadev, the stone-God. he prayed to the stone with all his devoutness. Two-thirds of the night having gone, the Bheel King felt impatient and said, “Dear friend, you have not yet talked to me. is it that you are not satisfied with my gift? What more do you want from me? i am now prepared to offer you anything you want. am i to offer you my greatest treasure? Will you then appear before me? Then take it, take my eye.” With these words, he took out an arrow from the container, kept hung over his shoulder and wrenched out his right eye and kept that blood-splattered eye-ball on the stone. he then said, “God, the King of this world, talk to me now that i have offered my greatest treasure. But why are you mum then? Oh! i see, you want the left eye. Ok. i will offer it to you.”
The Bheel King was about to wrench out his left eye. at that very moment, the linga parted and Mahadev stood out of it and held the hand of the Bheel King. said he, “i am here with you, dear friend.” Ecstatic at heart, the Bheel King said, “Why haven’t
