i had asked Baba many questions regarding snakes as i had heard that there were many varieties of poisonous snakes in Kailash where Baba’s ashrama was being built. snakes could be seen here and there among the stones. People working there would be fright- ened of the snakes and they would disappear when Baba would come. Once a few disciples of Baba told about the snakes to his Bhakta who was living at the top of Kailash in a small hut. The Bhakta at 3 a.m. went one mile towards Kutuniya river to freshen himself up. When he had completed nearly half his journey, he heard Baba’s warning voice from the top of Kailash Pahar, “Brahmachari be warned.” The Brahmachari was stupefied to see a huge snake on a big stone. he lifted his staff to hit the snake and once again he heard the stern command of Baba, “Do not kill it.” The Brahmachari waited for some time and the snake vanished.
The question was how could Baba see the snake in the darkness of the night. how could Baba come to know of the existence of the snake amidst stones in the narrow mountain path? The Bhakta later asked Baba these questions to which Baba just smiled and after repeated entreaty just said “What do i know?” When i asked Baba if he didn’t feel frightened to live among tigers and snakes Baba then replied that tigers, snakes and sadhus live in forests, what is the fear then?
There was hardly any furniture in Baba’s small room. There was a wooden cot over which was laid a blanket. Near it was a stone vessel to keep water. a small cane box to keep little medicine bottles and a book shelf. Other than this there was a five feet long staff. Baba was truly a sannyasin as we were family men. We wish to adorn our loved ones according to our desire. We beautify not only our Satchidanand idols with flowers but also our children to our hearts’ content. We offer to our deity those things which we love to eat and the place where we love to sleep. Those who have seen venerated idols being worshipped at various shrines will be able to understand the credibility of this statement. We usually love gods who are in motion rather than idols created out of stone or wood. sadhubaba was such a God for his devotees. The way we love to decorate our house, we want to decorate the Guru’s house
