after a few years, there was a famine in that land. The King of the land declared that those whoever would come to the relief camp would be offered a huge amount of food-stuff. But he fixed up a schedule within which every intending person would have to go to the relief camp through the main gate. hundreds and thousands used to gather in front of the main gate. at that period of time, the King, while sitting at a place unnoticed, observed the guests. suddenly one day, he saw his poor parents standing at the main gate, in expectation of a handful of rice. When ordered, one of the King’s men, ran to the old couple and took them elsewhere and began to serve them with all cordiality. at last, that man took the old couple to the King. as the King descended from his throne and paid obeisance at the feet of his parents, the old couple was taken aback. With a smile, the King said, “Today you fail to recognize me, but i can recognize you very well—i am that handicapped son of yours.”
Overwhelmed, the parents shed tears of joy.
as this story was being told, a lady asked our Baba, “Why don’t people feel like chanting Harinam until late in life?” in reply, our Baba said, “Just as a bird, after having wandered a lot in the blue, gets tired and perches on a tree, a human being too, after having been tired of the daily grind of family life, looks for the holy feet of the Lord of Peace for eternal rest, or sings songs of praise, prays to him so that the struggle of life comes to an end.”
The lady also queried, “how does the cause of birth come to an end?” Replied our Baba, “Once a human being is sans (without) his desires, the cause of death stops and ends.”
shri shri Ramakrishna Paramhans Dev used to say, “The wind of favour from God is blowing, it’s time for you to set sail. if one earnestly and devoutly prays to him through meditation, then his heart gets cleaned of desires and temptations, acquires self-knowl- edge and thus the cycle of birth and death ceases.”
Earlier as i have stated there is a verandah on all sides of the hut. On the cot, placed on the northern side, there was a blanket and a few pieces of ochre clothes. seeing all those things there, i said to our Baba, “Why are those things there on that cot?” We
