came to learn from our Baba that one monk had been staying with him for the last few months and that two monks cannot put up in the same room, probably because it poses difficulty in the process of prayer and meditation. That is why, the monk was staying there on the cot. The monk was of a superior order. i said to our Baba, “it is too cold outside, besides there is the fear of tigers. how is it that he is staying outdoors?” With a smile, our Baba said, “i have not asked the monk about it?”
i: What’s the name of the monk?
Baba: i do not know it.
i: how long will he stay here?
Baba: i do not know it, nor does he.
We were taken aback. how is it that the monk had been
staying there, and our Baba did not know his name? is it so that a monk has everything but curiosity? is it so that all their desires die a premature death?
Later on i had had the fortune of seeing and meeting that great sage. his name was sri srutananda swami. he was old. But he was not without physical strength. after staying a few months at the Kailash, he was put up at a vast garden, near the town of Jasidih. he used to walk daily once or twice to the Kailash. his body, as i have seen him, showed no signs of tiredness or exhaustion. Once he told one of his disciples that both he and our sadhu Baba were born at the same time. i will tell you in detail about this great sage.
