 Second Taranga
One day on reaching Kailash i saw our Baba sitting westward on a piece of huge stone. i sat, as advised, at a distance. Our Baba was enjoying the sight of the sun gradually hiding itself behind the Dighariya hills. What a beautiful scene! amidst the trees atop the proud peaks of the hills, the crimson sun really looked exquisite. The sun having set, both the scene and the beauty vanished. Once the atman leaves the body, it loses all its glow. i turned my eyes from the dark hills and looked at our Baba. he then said, “Whatever deeds we do, results into two types of fruits of action done. Our fate or destiny is determined accordingly. as you sow, so you reap. Out of mean sort of work is born meaner desires and out of good deeds like an association with a sage or monk is born better and greater desires. Our sufferings are caused by these desires and out of the works or duties done, the fate of the next life is determined. it is through sufferings, as a consequence of activities of the previous birth, sufferings come to an end. “Prarabdha Karmanang Bhogadeva Kashy.” Just as an arrow, once shot, never returns, a human being is fated to suffer as a consequence of activities of his previous birth that undergoes no change”.
i asked, “Yag, yagna, shanti, swastayan—do they not determine destiny?”
he replied, “Whatever one is destined as a consequence of the deeds done in previous birth undergoes no change. One when born as a dog; there is no possibility of being born as a human. however, there are dogs who become a pet to the rich. There are on the other hand dogs, who, finding no food to eat, are hit hard at every door and roam about skin and bone.”
i asked, “Why do then people perform rites like shanti and swastayan? ”
Baba replied: “The sins which are being committed by a man meet with death through Yagna. For instance, if a man after having devoured a rich dish gets sick, he is relieved of his pains with the help of medicines, prescribed by a physician. similarly, through
