amidst wealth and luxury. But once there occurred a mishap in the happy-go-lucky family of the old man. his son said, “i will leave family life to go to the forest or wilderness for worship and meditation. he paid no heed to the words of his parents and wife. Determined as he was, nothing could tempt him to stay back. however, he agreed to meditate in a cottage on the bank of a river nearby. When the young man was absorbed in meditation, his son died a premature death. The old father got impatient so much so that he sent his men to accompany him home. But the son turned down their pleas. Within a short while, his daughter too died a premature death. however the sad news could hardly distract him from his avowed path. sometime later his wife too died. The news reached the young man but it did not affect him. he instead remained seated in meditation. The old father got angry and went out to scold his son. On reaching the cottage on the bank of the river, he saw his son sitting in meditation in the heart of the hut. seeing his son unconcerned, the old father got enraged and gave his son a huge kick. The meditation of the young man was cut short, and in an irritated tone he said, “Dear father, why did you disturb my state of joy?” i had a vision that my wife was having hundreds of sons and daughters on her happy lap.
his father said, “it is nothing but illusion, it is all but a fancy. You know that your wife, son and daughter have died a premature death.”
The son said, “how to take it for granted that it is true? Truth knows no death. had they been mine, they should have stayed with me and not left me.”
The old father realized that his son had had a mental disorder. some people believe—
“My home is full of wealth though my youth is short-lived. What is this life if the wealth is not enjoyed?”
in fact, the gems of advice offered by our Baba to us deserve being compiled into a big book.
