the talk, a discussion was held on monotheism and dualism. Those of us present on that occasion believed in dualism. someone asked which path was preferable to follow. Giving no direct reply, he told us all about what Hanumanji had said. Once sri Ramchandra was in his big court with all his courtiers. Many a sage were also there in that court. sri Raghunath asked his greatest disciple, hanumanji, “Dear hanuman, how do you look upon me?”
Hanumanji made no prompt reply. he thought to himself, “if i say, ‘Oh Raghunath, thou art my Lord and i am but a servant to you’, then those in the court would think that despite being a servant to Rama for so long a period, he has achieved no wisdom.” he also argued within himself, “if i say, ‘You and me are but one’, then those in the court would view, “Note how arrogant is this little devotee of Rama, in spite of being a petty servant, he wants to be one with his Lord.” so thinking, he at last replied:
द्ैत द्द्सत्याहसमी ते दासधो र्जवबुद्यात्वडँसक। वस्ुतस्त्वमेब्वस्ी इतत मे निश्चल मती॥
dvaita drisatyāhasamī te dāso jivabudyātvaḍaṃsaka, vastutastvamebvasmī iti me niścala matī.
The meaning being, when i worship you in the eye of a living being, you are Lord and i am your servant. and when i worship you as Paramatman, it seems that there is no difference between you and me—you are what i am.
On listening to the reply of Mahavir, everyone was highly pleased. and without a doubt, we too were highly pleased with what our Baba told.
