happy with the gesture of his disciple, the sweeper said, “i am exceedingly happy. You need not bear the burden of this container and you will have no test to take henceforth”.
With these words, the sweeper left the place. and the minister returned to the Court. angry, the King said, “how foolish you are! isn’t there anyone, but this sweeper in this land who could be your Guru?”
With his head hung, the minister remained silent. infuriated, the King said, “Get out from here now and don’t dare come either to the Palace or to me anymore.”
humiliated and belittled, the minister returned home. soon after, the king appointed some other person to the post of minister. But the new one was totally unfit for that post. Within a short while, with hardly any law and order in the land, the enemies raised their ugly head. There was indeed lawlessness prevailing everywhere. The King of the neighbouring country, who so long remained quiet, exploited the situation by attacking first the country (of the first King) and gradually advancing towards the capital. he conquered every resistance on the way and had the capital under his siege.
Frightened, the first King sent for the minister. The minister, being not a clever one, failed to offer any suggestion to the King. in a mood of fright, said he, “Your highness, we are left with no other option. The enemy has surrounded us and there is, therefore no possibility of any help from any other state. We are also quite less in number to retaliate.”
“That i know very well. Now tell me the way-out,” said the King. “Nothing but surrender, My Lord,” said the minister.
“You coward, get out,” shouted the King at the minister. and
the minister, thus humiliated, left the palace.
The King then was reminded of his former minister and thought
that had the former minister been there, there would not have been such a crisis. he thought and thought and finally at the dead of night he disguised himself and stood at the door of his former minister. The minister was well aware of the present crisis of the land; and no sooner had he seen the King at his door than he welcomed him and offered him a chair to sit on. Concerned, the
